Η Google μπορεί να χρειαστεί να αντιμετωπίσει προβλήματα με την υπόθεση της παραβίασης, το αποκαλούμενο “Apple Safari privacy breach” που ερευνά στις ΗΠΑ η αρμόδια επιτροπή, η Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Η FTC μπορεί να επιβάλει πρόστιμο στη Google μεγαλύτερο από τα $10 εκατομμύρια για παράβαση της ιδιωτικότητας – Internet privacy, σύμφωνα με το Bloomberg, και με πηγές “a person familiar with the matter”.
“We will of course cooperate with any officials who have questions,” είπε ο εκπρόσωπος της Google, ο κος Chris Gaither που μίλησε στο Bloomberg.
Η εταιρία με έδρα το Mountain View-based φαίνεται να έχει ‘πιαστεί’ να ανιχνεύει την δραστηριότητα – tracking user activity σε mobile Apple συσκευές. Ο γίγαντας της αναζήτησης υπάρχει ο ισχυρισμός πως εγκαθιστούσε cookies και trackers σε default Apple Safari browsers με ένα software ‘κόλπο’΄. Η δε Wall Street Journal ήταν η πρώτη που ανέφερε πως υπήρχε θέμα Google Apple Safari tracking τον Φεβρουάριο.
Τον κώδικα είχε δει ο κος code Jonathan Meyer, ερευνητής στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Stanford και το The Center for Internet and Society. Ο Meyer περιέγραψε τους “Safari Trackers” σε ένα blog post.
Google removed the Safari code after the WSJ report was published. In Google’s rebuttal, the company said it was only trying to get the Google “+1″ button on many different websites. They said the code was not collecting any personal information from users at all.
