Κανείς δεν μπορεί να πει πως η καριέρα του Luc Besson είναι αποτυχία. Με τα “The Fifth Element” και “Lucy” από τη μια όμως και τα “The Family”, “Arthur” και “Invisibles” από την άλλη, χωρίς να πάμε στα producing credits, του, είναι παραγωγικός και εντυπωσιακός. Ιδού, το “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets”. Το πιο φιλόδοξο sci-fi δημιούργημα του με τους Dane DeHaan και Cara Delevingne ως ‘special peace operatives’, κάτι σαν διαστημικούς σερίφηδες του ΟΗΕ που ταξιδεύουν στο Σύμπαν.
Και η παραγωγή τελειώνει. Με visuals εντυπωσιακά αν κρίνει κανείς από το San Diego Comic-Con και τους Clive Owen, Rihanna, John Goodman, Rutger Hauer, αλλά και Ethan Hawke σε άλλους ρόλους.
Μια ταινία με πολλά, πάρα μα πάρα πολλά ειδικά εφέ: 2,734! Και για αυτά ο Besson είχε και την Industrial Light & Magic αλλά και τη WETA να δουλεύουν για την ταινία, δύο από τις καλύτερες VFX εταιρίες σε σύνολο τριών! Κάτι καλό για τον Γάλλο: “None of the companies can take the entire bid for themselves,” Besson said. “We have basically three portions. We give to ILM what looks like better for this kind of thing and then Weta the other part. And then Rodeo, the third company.

Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe.
