Μέσα στην τρέλα που ζούμε ένα ακόμη κολοσσιαίο πρόγραμμα πέρασε στην επόμενη φάση. Ο Αμερικανικός Στρατός επέλεξε δύο τελικά από τις υποψηφιότητες που λειτουργούσαν σε πρόγραμμα πρωτοτύπων και τις συμφωνίες Other Transaction Authority for Prototype για να ετοιμάσουν τις προτάσεις τους για ένα επόμενο Αερόχημα Επίθεσης και Αναγνώρισης. …Future Attack and Reconnaissance Aircraft Competitive Prototypes που μπαίνουν στην δεύτερη φάση του προγράμματος.
Έτσι οι δύο εταιρίες είναι οι Bell Helicopter Textron Inc. (Fort Worth, Texas) και Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. (Stratford, Connecticut).
Στόχος είναι η παραγωγή ενός ελικοπτέρου που θα λειτουργεί σε “complex airspace and degraded environments against peer and near-peer adversaries with an advanced integrated air defense system”. Σήμερα οι ΗΠΑ και από τον καιρό που έφυγαν από την υπηρεσία τα Kiowa από τα οποία πήρε και η Ελλάδα, δεν έχουν ειδικό, dedicated αεροσκάφος για την αποστολή armed reconnaissance, light attack, και security με αυτό που θέλουν να πετύχουν, αυτό που αποκαλείται “standoff and lethal and non-lethal capabilities”, ένα αερόχημα μάλιστα που μπορεί να “κρυφτεί” στον θόρυβο της εξοχής και των μεγάλων πόλεων (!) από ραντάρ.

Jette, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology των ΗΠΑ.
Το πρόγραμμα FARA CP είχε τρεις φάσεις: 1.”preliminary design”, 2.”detailed design, build, and test” και 3.”prototype completion assessment and evaluation for entrance into production phase”.
Από τον Απρίλιο οτυ 2019 είχαμε πέντε συμφωνίες OTAP και την πρώτη φάση. Ήταν οι εταιρίες 1.AVX Aircraft Co. σε συνεργασία με τις L3Harris, 2.Bell Helicopter Textron Inc., 3.The Boeing Company, 4.Karem Aircraft, Inc. και 5.Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. (Lockheed Martin).
Οι Bell Helicopter Textron Inc. (Fort Worth, Texas) και Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. (Stratford, Connecticut) περνάνε λοιπόν στη Φάση 2.
Η φάση αυτή θα τελειώσει με πρόγραμμα πτήσεων που θα γίνει κάτω από την κυβερνητική επίβλεψη το αργότερο το φθινόπωρο του 2023.
