Στις ΗΠΑ επικρατεί χαμός με πάρα πολλά προγράμματα σε εξέλιξη. Ένα από αυτά, το Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV), βρίσκει στη γραμμή εκκίνησης την American Rheinmetall που μάλιστα ποντάρει…

…στις software ικανότητες μιας νέας start-up για τη νίκη.

Φέτος η American Rheinmetall και η Anduril ανακοίνωσαν τη συνεργασία τους για τον διαγωνισμό OMFV που θα βασιστεί πολύ πια στο software για τα πολλά data που θα δίνει στους στρατιώτες.

“It was a logical fit for some of the toolsets that we want to bring in where we can help enable and automate decisions, we can provide enhanced situational awareness through sensor fusion,” είπε ο Matt Warnick, managing director της American Rheinmetall, στο Breaking Defense. “All of that requires management of data and organization and structuring of data. And Anduril’s an exceptional organization to do that.”

Το OMFV έχει σαν στόχο να αντικαταστήσει το Bradley Fighting Vehicle και η διαφορά του με άλλα προηγούμενα μοντέλα που είχαν προταθεί για υπηρεσία στις ΗΠΑ είναι πως θα είναι “optionally manned”.

“The approach that the Rheinmetall team has taken to not just building that architecture into the vehicle, but having it as a core element of what we’ll ultimately deliver an a proposal to the Army in the fall is something that that we think is differentiated,” είπε ο κ.Zach Mears της Anduril στο Breaking Defense που εξήγησε πως η Rheinmetall σκέφτεται να πατήσει πάνω σε open architecture στοιχεία.

Η προτάσεις για το OMFV από την βιομηχανία αναμένονται μέχρι και την 1η Νοεμβρίου με τον Αμερικανικό Στρατό να αναμένεται να αποδεχθεί μέχρι και τρεις υποψηφίους για τις φάσεις τρία και τέσσερα στο 2η τρίμηνο του 2023, τις detailed design and prototype build/test φάσης που μαζί κοστίζουν $903 εκατομμύρια.

Σήμερα ενδιαφέρονται τέσσερις μονομάχοι, οι BAE Systems, General Dynamics Land Systems, Oshkosh Defense, Point Blank Enterprises εκτός της Rheinmetall.
