Πριν από τέσσερα χρόνια ο Ιάπωνας δισεκατομμυριούχος Yusaku Maezawa είχε καθίσει με τον ηγέτη της SpaceX Elon Musk για να ανακοινωθούν τα πρώτα σχέδια για μια αποστολή πολιτών στη Σελήνη.

Στην παρουσίαση του 2018 δε ο Maezawa είπε πως είχε καλύψει τα έξοδα για την αποστολή της μιας εβδομάδας και ήθελε να προσκαλέσει οκτώ άτομα να τον… συνοδεύσουν στο ταξίδι στη Σελήνη και το διαστημικό πέρασμα από τον δορυφόρο μας. Το ταξίδι στην ουσία θα είναι ίδιας φιλοσοφίας με αυτό που η NASA έχει σχεδιάσει και κάνει αυτές τις ημέρες η αποστολή Artemis I και το διαστημικό σκάφος Orion.

Πέρυσι ο Ιάπωνας επιχειρηματίας είχε ξεκινήσει μια διαδικασία υποψηφιοτήτων για το ταξίδι ζωής. Τώρα όμως μόλις μαθαίνουμε πως ο Maezawa είπε πως ήθελε να ακούσει τις προτάσεις από άτομα που “think big” ειδικά όταν το θέμα είναι να βοηθηθεί η κοινωνία με κάποιον τρόπο.

Είπε ακόμη πως ήθελε υποψηφίους “willing and able to support other crewmembers who share similar aspirations.”

Τελικά η ανακοίνωση ήρθε πριν από 16 ώρες:

“It’s been a year and a half since MZ first opened the dearMoon admission to the public in search of artists to join him on this lunar orbital mission. After numerous interviews, medical checks and face-to face gatherings, we are finally ready to announce the crew members who will be joining MZ on this extraordinary trip to the moon on SpaceX’s Starship.”

Ο δισεκατομμυριούχος ανακοίνωσε πως διάλεξε οκτώ δημιουργικά άτομα από όλο τον κόσμο που περιλαμβάνουν τον DJ Steve Aoki τον K-pop star T.O.P.

“I hope each and every one will recognize the responsibility that comes with leaving the Earth, traveling to the moon and back,” λέει ο Maezawa στο βίντεο. “They will gain a lot from this experience, and I hope they will use that to contribute to the planet, to humanity. But more than anything, I think it’s important that each crew feels that they are enjoying this trip the most, so I hope we can all just have fun.”

Το πλήρωμα θα φτάσει 125 μίλια από την επιφάνεια της Σελήνης.

Yemi A.D.: Founder of JAD Productions, a leading Europe-based creative production company.

Rhiannon Adam: A photographer whose work is based on long-form,= social documentary projects that make use of analog photographic processes and archive materials.

Karim Illiya: A photographer, filmmaker, and whale swimming guide based in Iceland and Hawaii.

Brendan Hall: Documentary filmmaker whose work focuses on adventures that explore the frontiers of our human spirit.

Dev Joshi: A professional actor and social media influencer with more than 18 years of experience in the field of arts and entertainment.

Choi Seung-hyun, aka T.O.P.: A rapper, multihyphenate musician, award-winning film actor, and art collector.

Kaitlyn Farrington (backup): Currently pursuing a degree in business communication, she also won gold in the snowboard halfpipe in the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games.

Miyu (backup): A professional dancer, choreographer, and movement practitioner.
