Underwater environments pose significant risks, making diving operations high-risk professions. Efficient underwater robots can mitigate human exposure to these hazards. However, work-class underwater robots with multiple functions are typically large, making them cumbersome to carry and requiring complex operation and maintenance procedures. Additionally, they often require multiple operators, leading to high operational costs. On the other hand, small-sized robots often have limited task capabilities, short endurance, and a narrow range of applications. Our primary design objective is to develop a small-scale work robot that is suitable for single-person operation, encompasses multiple tools and functions, and offers extended diving usage and endurance.
With the FIFISH E-GO, we have designed a modular quick-change device with components for the robot that can be replaced in under 30 seconds, ensuring that a single person can handle all the necessary operational steps. As small robots often face limitations in terms of endurance, we have incorporated replaceable dual batteries that can be swapped within 1 minute without lengthy interruptions of ongoing underwater tasks. This feature enables the robot to continue its operations seamlessly, without any hassle. Additionally, we have implemented a quick replacement feature for the motor, allowing a single person to replace a spare motor within 5 minutes. This reduces maintenance costs and addresses potential motor issues, resulting in a time-saving of over 90%.
